From the time Middle Tennessee Normal School first opened its doors in 1911, our athletic teams and student-athletes have played an important role in our University’s heritage and development. Since moving to Division I-A, MTSU has made significant progress in all sports and today stands as the pre-eminent program in the Sun Belt Conference, recognized nationally for its success in the playing arena and in the classroom.
With three consecutive Bubbas Cup honors (as well as seven in the past 10 years), which recognizes the top comprehensive athletic program in the Sun Belt, along with several teams and individuals capturing national honors, MTSU has positioned itself as a significant competitor on the national level and is committed to maintaining its status as an elite athletic program.
The Blue Raider Athletics Program is committed to providing the highest level of performance – on the field and in the classroom – uniting our community and promoting a greater sense of pride. To maintain our status as the elite program in the conference, and assure our continued success in future athletic pursuits, we must attract the best student athletes to our campus to compete on our Blue Raider and Lady Raider teams, and provide our student-athletes and coaches with the highest quality facilities and services. In addressing these needs among the key priorities identified were – a comprehensive indoor athletics training center (to be used for practices and certain track and field competitions), enhancements to Murphy Center, and a new indoor tennis facility.
Additionally to help meet the academic needs of our students we recognized that increased endowed scholarship support was critical to our continued success.
